The Department of Education, Youth and Culture of the canton of Vaud commissioned NWA to promote awareness at international level of the results of research into magnetic refrigeration carried out by the Haute Ecole d'Ingénierie of the canton of Vaud.

For the first time, this research allows the magnetocalorific effect to be used in a machine capable of generating low temperatures while consuming less energy and eliminating any waste.

This procedure has a very significant environmental impact. Magnetic refrigeration systems appreciably limit (by 40% to 60%) energy consumption of refrigeration equipment.

The objective was to analyse the state of research, consolidate the legal situation (patents) and set up a company in order to market this new technology.

Based on this example, NWA proposed a strategy aimed at promoting the canton of Vaud as well as Switzerland as the ideal place for innovation and training.
